Fair Housing & DEI Education Requirements
REALTORS® are held to the highest standard and that's reflected in the education you're required to complete each renewal period and training cycle. Aside from your Code of Ethics education, you're also required to complete certain Fair Housing and DEI courses each cycle, so here we've provided some helpful resources and guidelines to help guide you toward a path of success & compliance.

Washington Realtors® & National Association of Realtors® Requirements
State: Real Estate Continuing Education License Requirements
Washington Real Estate Fair Housing Course (3hr) (6hr)
- If you haven't taken the initial 6-hour Washington Real Estate Fair Housing course, you must take it first.
- Once you've taken the initial 6-hour course, you must take the 3-hour Washington Real Estate Fair Housing course each time you renew.
National Requirements
National Association of REALTORS® new-member applicants must now complete two hours of fair housing training and existing members must complete two hours of fair housing training every three years as a condition of REALTOR® membership, including one training option that is of no cost to members. The three-year cycle coincides with NAR’s existing Code of Ethics training requirement and begins in 2025.
The Mandatory Washington Real Estate Fair Housing Course (3hr) satisfies the new NAR requirement.
Other courses satisfying the new NAR requirement are: (you only have to complete one course)
- At Home With Diversity, a course to help real estate professionals work successfully in an increasingly diverse marketplace
- Bias Override: Overcoming Barriers to Fair Housing, a course to help real estate professionals identify and interrupt stereotypical thinking to avoid fair housing pitfalls
- Fairhaven (2hr) *NAR is working on updating Fairhaven to make it compliant with the 2-hour requirement.
State National Directors
Members are required to complete the following training:
2024 Directors need to complete the required courses by May 1st ,2024.
State Committee Requirements
Executive Committee
Members are required to complete the following training:
The requirements are phased in:
- Committee Members serving in 2024 will be required to complete the three programs as a performance expectation by May 1, 2024.
- In 2025, completion of the programs will be a qualification for serving on the Executive Committee
DEI Committee
Members are required to complete the following training:

- Members serving in 2024 will be required to complete the three programs as a performance expectation by May 1, 2024.
- In 2025, completion of these programs will be a qualification for serving as a member.
