Washington REALTORS® Statement on Kathy Lambert Political Campaign Mailer

Earlier this year, the Washington REALTORS® Board of Directors adopted a document that sets forth our values and expectations regarding candidates and their characterizations of their opponents (see warealtor.org/rpac-statement-of-principles).

The values and expectations are shared by our local associations who make the endorsement decisions in local races all over the state.

In response to offensive and inappropriate imagery used in a campaign mailer by King County Councilmember Kathy Lambert’s campaign, the Seattle King County REALTORS® Board of Directors voted to rescind the endorsement of Kathy Lambert for King County Council— and the Washington REALTORS® fully supports that decision.

Nathan Gorton, Washington REALTORS® Government Affairs Director: “As a policy, Washington REALTORS® hold our endorsed candidates for elected office to a high standard of respect for all people in the community and have zero tolerance for any expression of racism or discrimination. The Lambert campaign’s use of offensive and inappropriate imagery fell far short of this standard. Washington REALTORS® condemn the Lambert campaign’s mail piece, support the Seattle King County REALTORS® decision to rescind their endorsement of Lambert, and call on the Lambert campaign to return the contribution our PAC made to her campaign.”
