WHY SHOULD
REALTORS® Get Involved???

BECAUSE LAND USE RESTRICTIONS THREATEN
OUR ABILITY TO SELL PROPERTY!

REALTOR® clients are interested in purchasing property - a quality home or business in a safe neighborhood, with good schools, efficient transportation, with parks and recreational opportunities nearby.

As growth management and land use controls (such as zoning codes and development regulations) become more restrictive, property owners lose their ability to use - and sell - their property, and therefore determine its marketability.

Land use controls are based on the planning goals and policies established in each community's comprehensive plan, required by the state's Growth Management Act (GMA). Many local governments are in the process of reviewing their plans right now.

Decisions made now will determine the ability to sell property in the future. By getting involved in the process, REALTORS® can help determine the zoning and development regulations on which the use of property will be based - and hence, the property owners' ability to use and market their land.

The REALTORS® Quality of Life program provides a wealth of information on dealing with land use issues for our Local Associations and our advocates. There is lots of information on this successful program, just click on the Quality of Life icon!
